We know…we’re shocked too. The holiday season is in full swing and Christmas is less than three weeks away! This means a few things: festive displays are showing up everywhere, malls are bustling with excited crowds, work and family celebrations are in full gear, and that Christmas shopping you were dreading needs to happen now.

To help you this holiday season, the ladies at DComm have rounded up our favourite products, sure to please the special people in your life. And even better, all of our suggestions can be found in Uptown Waterloo shops!

Jessica’s Top Products:

1) Detox Tea from DAVIDsTEA (Uptown Waterloo location)

Give the gift of relaxation this Christmas with a bag of detoxifying tea from David’s Tea. This loose-leaf blend, which is my favourite David’s Tea product, is perfect for when you need a system reboot, need to catch up on some much-needed sleep, or as an early-morning or after-dinner indulgence. With ingredients such as rooibos, sencha, ginger, ginkgo, lemongrass, and juniper berries, it has health benefits too!

2) Funky Chunky Chip-Zel-Pop from Dana Shortt Gourmet

This sweet, salty, chewy, crispy, and crunchy snack is the perfect stocking stuffer or party gift this holiday season. It’s made with natural ingredients – crisp potato chips, pretzel sticks, and buttery non-GMO caramel corn – all mixed together and drizzled with thick caramel and dark, milk, and white chocolate. Beware: you may end up keeping this gift for yourself after sampling it in-store.

3) Gift Card from Moksha Yoga

PR is ranked as one of the most stressful jobs year after year, and here at Durrell Communications, there are times we can 100% agree with this. That’s why I’m a hot yoga aficionado and truly believe in the benefits of a yoga session. For anyone in your life that likes to exercise, or experiences some stress in their day-to-day life, a little yoga can go a long way.

Jordan’s Top Products:

1) Community Minded Products from Element Hair

They may not be an Uptown Waterloo business, but they are doing something great for the community this holiday season! Element Hair is supporting two local charities by donating back $5 from their community-minded products (which are amazing, by the way). Try their Argan Oil Hair and Body Wash in support of KidsAbility or their Rosemary and Mint Shampoo in support of The Rotary Club of Waterloo!

2) Gift Card from Proof Kitchen + Lounge

Poof Kitchen + Lounge is new to Waterloo and definitely worth a visit for breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch. If you have yet to try the fresh and locally inspired menu we recommend you do! Proof’s thrice cooked fries are my personal favourite. Yep, they even make fries stand out!

Share the delicious flavours and local support by grabbing a Proof gift card! If you’re feeling festive, they currently have seasonal offerings available until Jan 3rd.

3) Handmade Cards from Isencards

Give the gift of local and handmade! Yes, I’m plugging myself! I love to communicate in every way possible. Sharing thoughts, kind words and memories is important to me especially during the holidays.

I make my own line of handmade cards that can be found at Artisan Zone in Kitchener, or you can order custom cards by emailing me at bjnottrodt@gmail.com.

Laura’s Top Products:

1) Vanilla Syrup from Starbucks (Uptown Waterloo location)

I love coffee, a lot. Not just because it gives me the energy of a child at 8 o’clock in the morning, but also because when made right, it can satisfy my sweet tooth.

Melissa, Jessica and Jordan can attest to the deliciously sweet syrups I put in my coffee. From honey, to maple, to vanilla, I’ve tried and LOVED them all, but if I had to pick one, it would be the Vanilla Syrup. It can be bought online or at a local Starbucks, like the one in Uptown Waterloo.

Just don’t tell my dentist.

2) Shoes from Heel Boy

As Carrie Bradshaw so rightfully put it, “you can never have too many pairs of shoes.” That’s why my second recommended buy is shoes from my favourite footwear store in Waterloo, Heel Boy.

Their large display of fashionable winter boots, to high heels, makes Heel Boy an excellent shopping destination. Plus, they have accessories too! It’s clearly a win-win.

3) Flowers from Charmed Flowers and Gifts

For individuals like me, the home is an extension of the self. That’s why since moving into my first out-of-school, adult apartment, I’ve become a tad obsessed with decorating. One of my favourite ways to decorate is with plants and flowers. I find that having bright, fresh cut flowers can instantly improve my mood, and just add a beautiful element to my home!

My favourite place to buy flowers is at Charmed Flowers and Gifts. The service is always wonderful and the store itself is a think tank for floral and décor innovation.

Melissa’s Top Products:

1) Pure Blood Orange Nourishing Body Cream from The Truth Beauty Company

TBC’s slogan this holiday is “give the gift of green beauty this season”. I love it! The store is full of lovely gift ideas, from soap to perfume. This body cream is my absolute favourite – a must buy for the women in your life.

2) Gift Card from Death Valley’s Little Brother

A friend of mine says this year she is giving “experiences” for Christmas! I love that idea, so my experience is sipping perfectly made coffee! I started my business at the bowling ball boardroom table at Death Valley’s Little Brother, and I continue to go in as often as possible. Every stocking should include a stylishly designed DVLB gift cards, perfect for the cappuccino connoisseur.

3) Snowboarding Gear from OW Sports

Finally, I promised myself that I would start snowboarding again after retiring my board for 7 years.  The best and most knowledgeable staff is at OW sports! We live in Canada folks! You have to have a winter sport or the season lasts forever! Whether you are a one planker or two, I guarantee you will find something in the showroom.

There is a lot to see and buy this year, and the best news is that you can find some of the best products all in a few kilometers of each other. Shop local this holiday season and support some of the amazing businesses in Uptown Waterloo.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from all of us at Durrell Communications!
