Account Manager, Public Relations

The Account Manager is responsible for client branding, PR related initiatives and communication of our client’s business activities to their stakeholders and the public. The Account Manager works as the liaison between the client and the Durrell Communications team, ensuring all work is completed and building a strong relationship between the company and the client. They are knowledgeable about all aspects of Durrell Communications and its services, highlighting new ways that we may offer clients greater success through Public Relations, Media, Marketing and Communications. They are comfortable discussing contracts and proposals with existing clients. They are responsible for ensuring the internal team meets deadlines, represents the brand voice and satisfies client needs and goals. Through the contributions of the Account Manager, client KPIs are reached, and the internal teams are effective, timely and successful.

What you will be doing

In the position of Account Manager, successful employees will work towards developing strategies to better serve our clients. They connect clients to reporters and publications in order to drive increased revenue, brand awareness, reputation and overall media and networked exposure for the organization. They oversee the representation of the organizational image to the client’s customers, shareholders and community. They build influence and reach of the client through crafting sponsorship and speaking opportunities, award and recognition, and event visibility.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Serve as the lead point of contact for clients, including all account management matters and build strong, long-lasting client relationships
  • Ensure the overall client services delivery presents an exceptional customer service experience with timely and successful solutions according to client needs and objectives
  • Execute on client strategy by setting manageable timelines and deliverables for team members, helping to solve problems that affect the service and efficiency of client projects
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the implemented client strategy on a monthly basis and course correct to ensure strategy objectives are met.

Project Management:

  • Develop timelines and oversee execution on all client projects, monitoring deliverables and billable time
  • Ensure effective resource allocation among departments to meet client goals and objectives 

Client and Public Relations Strategy:

  • Liaise and collaborate with all team members as needed and help provide creative solutions to communication problems
  • Convert client strategy into an executional plan in coordination
  • Collaborate with marketing and subject matter experts in a timely manner to determine execution of deliverables 

Content Production:

  • Develop or direct the creation of written materials including press releases, Q& A, media standby statements, fact sheets, pitch scripts, articles, blogs, case studies, newsletters and other collateral on brand and corporate issues as required 
  • Creates content that is consistent and appropriately reflects client brand and standards
  • Evaluates all forms of content with respect to client style, organization, accuracy and consistency.

Other:

  • Monitors publicity and conducts research to find out concerns and expectations of client stakeholders in order to create both a traditional and non-traditional media strategy including influencer marketing and podcasting.
  • Provide monthly reporting to the leadership team that analyzes each client’s statistics and provides recommendations

What we require

  • 3+ years of experience in public relations, journalism or digital marketing role
  • 2+ years of experience in project management, or similar client facing capacity 
  • 1+ experience in media or journalism industry

  • Must be able to meet tight deadlines and execute flawlessly on projects in a fast-paced, often pressured environment and see a project through to completion

Public Relations Account Coordinator

How you will make a difference

The Public Relations Account Coordinator is the key support for the Public Relations and Marketing teams by providing client support in the management, creation and execution of media and public relations assets while connecting our clients to reporters and publications in order to drive increased revenue, brand awareness, reputation and overall media exposure for the organization. Their research provides the tools, knowledge and resources for the Account Executives and Managers to make the best possible decisions for our clients. They work as part of the creative team by contributing to the overall concept and creation of written content and communication. 

What you will be doing

Content Creation:

  • Execute the client social strategy in collaboration with the team by:
    • Online engagement in communities and social platforms
    • Creating content and design for blogs, newsletters, social platforms and online marketing materials
    • Managing email list strategies for clients by developing marketing content that include the delivery timing, creative layouts, tailored messages and subject lines
    • Developing social media graphics, videos and document design in collaboration with client teams, working from creative briefs, brainstorming or content calendars
  • Proofread, edit, and write a variety of materials ensuring aligning the message and maintaining brand voice to produce the desired reactions in the audience
  • Complete search engine optimization tasks, including keyword research, on-page website optimization, link building and other off-page optimizations to optimize a client’s web exposure
  • Assist with the reputation management of clients by monitoring the internet for positive and negative comments on its brand, products and services
  • Highlight and bring attention to positive comments and information as well as troubleshoot and resolve negative information and comments

Public Relations and Media Strategy:

  • Build relationships with key media contacts and identify opportunities to proactively pitch brand and corporate stories to media as appropriate
  • Manage day-to-day media relations/media requests for brand and corporate issues
  • Organize events including press conferences, exhibitions, open days and press tours
  • Source and manage speaking opportunities, awards and sponsorships
  • Prepare and supervise the production of publicity brochures, handouts, promotional videos, photographs, and multimedia programs; devising and coordination photo opportunities to support public relations and media initiatives
  • Effectively “sell” press releases to media, communicates benefits to media outlet of accepting press releases
  • Liaise with key spokespeople and answer enquiries from media, individuals, and other organizations often via telephone and email.

Research:

  • Conduct research for Account Managers such as white papers, media lists and checks on questionable details
  • Stay current and maintain a library of industry news and reference materials for client work
  • Stay current on copyright and plagiarism legislation and regulations

Metrics & Analytics:

  • Track and analyze media coverage
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the implemented client strategy on a monthly basis and work with Account Manager to course correct to ensure strategy objectives are met

Project Management:

  • Execute timelines on all client projects set by the Account Manager
  • Communicate any issues that arise that affect project execution, timelines and deadlines
  • Track all hours by client and project

What we require

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, English, Journalism, Marketing, Design, Communication or another related field
  • Integrated marketing technology certificates an asset
  • 1+ – 3 experience in public relations, social media management or digital marketing role

Skills for success

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of effective communications and mass media, publicity, advertising, digital marketing and social media, policies, education, community relations, demonstration, organization structure, social service and government relations as they relate to our clients.
  • Exceptional project management skills including organizational, strategic, planning and implementation skills.
  • Must be able to meet tight deadlines and execute flawlessly on projects in a fast-paced environment and see a project through to completion.
  • Ability to create materials in a range of styles and voice
  • Ability to take constructive criticism
