Media Specialist

How you will make a difference

The Media Specialist drives public relations and media strategy for our clients, leading the creation, management and distribution of content while connecting brands to media opportunities that elevate awareness, reputation and engagement. This role plays a key part in shaping and executing communication strategies, managing media relationships and delivering measurable results. Working closely with internal teams and clients, the Media Specialist contributes to strategic planning, content development, media outreach and campaign execution while continuously optimizing performance and impact.

What you will be doing

Public Relations and Media Strategy

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key media contacts and proactively pitch stories to media outlets.
  • Manage day to day media relations and respond to media inquiries.
  • Organize events including press conferences, exhibitions, open houses and media tours.
  • Identify and secure speaking opportunities, awards and sponsorships for clients.
  • Oversee the development of publicity materials including brochures, videos, photography and multimedia assets.
  • Coordinate photo opportunities and ensure alignment with PR and media initiatives.
  • Support crisis communication efforts in collaboration with senior leadership.

Client Relationship Management

  • Lead client communications, meetings and project updates.
  • Ensure timelines and deliverables are clearly defined and executed.
  • Address challenges that impact project efficiency and outcomes.
  • Maintain a high standard of client service and experience.

Brand and Communications Strategy

  • Develop and implement short and long term branding strategies aligned with client goals.
  • Create and manage client content calendars that integrate media, PR and digital initiatives.
  • Ensure all communications align with brand voice, positioning and objectives.

Research

  • Monitor media coverage and analyze public perception and stakeholder expectations.
  • Identify target audiences and recommend appropriate media channels and formats.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, media landscape changes and emerging opportunities.

Content Creation

  • Lead the development of written materials including press releases, articles, pitch letters, case studies, newsletters and media statements.
  • Oversee content creation across public relations, media and digital platforms to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop engaging and strategic communication materials.

Metrics and Analytics

  • Track and analyze media coverage and campaign performance.
  • Establish key performance indicators and evaluate effectiveness of strategies.
  • Prepare monthly reports with insights and recommendations for optimization.

Project Management

  • Manage timelines and execution of client projects in collaboration with the Account Manager.
  • Track project progress and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Monitor and log hours by client and project.

What we require

Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, English, Journalism, Marketing, Communications or another related field.
2–5 years of experience in media, journalism or public relations.
Experience in social media management or digital marketing is considered an asset.

Skills for success

Experience with tools such as ASANA, Agility PR, Meltwater, Canva and Adobe Creative Suite is considered an asset.
Strong understanding of media relations, branding and communication strategy.
Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills.
Strong organizational and project management abilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.
Strategic thinking with a results driven mindset.
Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
Ability to analyze data and translate insights into actionable strategies.
High level of professionalism, integrity and accountability.
Strong verbal and written English language skills.
