International Women’s Day 2022 brings focus to gender equity through its global #BreakTheBias campaign. We have come a long way in recent decades, but gender bias continues to negatively impact women’s social and professional equality. It’s time we level the playing field to ensure all people are respected and treated as equals.
With a female-led team at Durrell Communications, we understand the importance of gender equality and what breaking the bias means to so many women and girls. Below we share how our team continues to break the bias by creating a workplace that is free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination and where our differences are valued and celebrated.
The Impact of Gender Bias
In general, bias is a natural tendency, inclination or prejudice towards a particular person or thing. Gender bias involves any prejudice or stereotyping based on gender or sex.
The following are some ways our team is helping to forge women’s equality and break the bias:
Celebrating Women’s Achievements
We make an effort to put our team in the spotlight and celebrate their contributions and achievements. Celebrating success builds confidence, increases performance, strengthens connections and can lead to greater achievements. One of the best ways we can advance our success as women is to celebrate each other and our accomplishments.
Every day our team works hard to amplify the work of our clients and position them as changemakers. Seeing our clients succeed and knowing we were a part of that is such a rewarding feeling, and we believe it’s worth celebrating. Which is why each morning we start the day off by sharing media hits and client wins. Recognizing our accomplishments helps keep us inspired and motivated to keep putting in great work.
Raising Awareness Against Bias
As a society, we have a responsibility to dismantle the stereotypes and biases that hold women back. We must come together to raise awareness and continue to educate ourselves and others about gender equality and its impacts on society.
We understand the importance of amplifying the voices of women. Our team is always making an effort to use our knowledge and skills to get the word out there. We actively use our platform to provide useful information and resources to anyone who wants to learn more.
Taking Action for Equality
In order to drive change, our efforts to raise awareness against bias must be followed by action. The following are some great ways to get involved and promote gender equality:
- Join community meetings
- Organize events/workshops
- Educate children
- Use your social platforms to raise awareness
At Durrell Communications, we continue to do our part to create a more inclusive community. Each year our team partakes in the Women’s March, International Women’s Day and the Women’s Campaign School. Our team is also a proud sponsor of the IWD 2022 Break the Bias Waterloo Region Virtual Event. This event aims to raise awareness and celebrate women in Waterloo Region. Our very own Melissa Durrell, President and Chief Communications Strategist of Durrell Communications, will be hosting this year’s event on March 8th from 12:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
We hope you join us this International Women’s Day in the movement towards an inclusive world. To learn more and register for this year’s FREE virtual events, follow the link here. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias and build a better future for generations to come.
